Save Changes dialog with keyboard shortcuts?

This is a request to add default keyboard button shortcuts to the "Save Changes" dialog window.
If you can press Open another file with Ctrl+O, forcing then to use the mouse is awkward. 🙂 I often use the keyboard, and it's sad I can't do that when opening files.

You know, the one when you try to Open a new file, and Spine prompts you with:

"Your project has unsaved changes."
Continue without saving
Save and continue
Cancel

Esc works for Cancel,
But it would be really nice, if
N was for Continue without saving, i.e. N for No
S or Y for Save and continue, i.e. S for Save or Y for Yes

Maybe other buttons would work. I just chose these as examples because they are in most applications and OSs.

What do you guys think?

Here's my idea for that dialog:

For quick readability, I recommend rewording the buttons:
Rephrase "Continue without saving" into "Don't Save". Then let it respond to the N key.
Rephrase "Save and Continue" into just "Save". Let it respond to either Y or S.
The "Save" option should also be highlighted by default so it can also respond to Enter and Spacebar when it pops up.
Agreed. Esc works for Cancel.

I think this will make it pretty consistent with Adobe, Apple and Microsoft desktop programs.

(Mac save dialogs don't have keyboard shortcuts though. boo. But the phrasing is clear, and shared with Windows programs like Notepad)

The wording on the dialog was done to make it clear. No one reads anything these days, so a dialog that says something and has the buttons "Yes", "No", and "Cancel" is bad. Most software does that, but that doesn't make it good! I agree the current wording is quite long though. I'm not sure about using a contraction with "Don't Save". Maybe "Discard changes", "Save changes", and "Cancel"?

The keyboard shortcuts for the save prompt are currently enter, spacebar, and escape. All of them do the same thing: cancel. The reasoning was so it isn't easy to choose the wrong option. I agree it should be possible to choose any of the three options from the keyboard. How about using the left/right arrow keys (or tab) to highlight a button, and enter to press it? Cancel would be highlighted by default, as it is the safest option.

Sounds mostly fine.

Though I vote "Save" and "Don't Save" since it better emphasizes the difference between the two options.
Admittedly, it's a bit informal, but it's also both standard and immediately visually obvious.

I also understand the "make it hard for users to make mistakes" paradigm.
But from experience with any other program, closing and not saving happens often enough that it can get really annoying.

I think the choice of pressing N and Esc would be the minimum thing that prevents it from being annoying since you can easily save (CTRL+S) after pressing Esc. Or even more convolutedly, allow the users to change the settings so N key can be enabled/bound even if it's disabled by default for "safety reasons".
